Meme Hangover: Anonymous Cat and Hajimi Crash After Yesterday’s Rally as Basecat Bleeds for a Second Day

Basecat lost another life: the cat-themed token fell 22.3% to $0.0428, a second straight day of losses after yesterday’s 27.7% drop. Cats are said to have nine lives, but Basecat appears to be burning one per day — and today’s $13.7 million in volume suggests even the faithful are done buying the dip.

Yesterday’s heroes are today’s anti-heroes. Anonymous Cat (ZCAT), which was up 323.4% ahead of yesterday’s report, is down 17.3% at $0.133. Hajimi, the token whose Chinese name translates to "kitten" and which gained 247% a day ago, is now down 18.1%. The formula of meme season has never been clearer: fame lasts 24 hours, and liquidity leaves before headlines are even written.

Yesterday’s losers kept bleeding too. MarsCoin lost another 19.5% to $0.1575 on massive volume of $80.2 million — the mission to the Red Planet is apparently postponed indefinitely. Hemi fell 19.6% to $0.00915, and its $78.2 million in volume dwarfed a market cap of just $8.9 million — the signature of panic selling rather than ordinary market confusion.

The day’s biggest loser by market cap is Pons: the token shed 14.9%, wiping tens of millions off a $512.6 million valuation, while $160.3 million in daily volume shows the retreat happened in broad formation. Metis, once a star of Ethereum Layer 2 narratives, is also down 13.2%.

The deepest holes of the day, however, belong to tokens the wider market barely noticed. STONKS collapsed 52.6%, The Stonks Exchange lost 38.5% and SHROOM fell 33.5%. A fair warning for anyone tracking tickers: STONK (yesterday’s champion, up 270%) and STONKS (today’s anti-hero, down 52.6%) are two completely different stories — in crypto, a single extra letter can mean a very different outcome.

While some investors comfort themselves that this is just a correction after a wild week, the data paints a more serious picture: most tokens on today’s loser list have shed more than a fifth of their value in just a few days, and sell volume is rising rather than fading. Bitcoin retreated 1.5% along the way, meaning today’s slide is not broad risk but a selective retreat from the stories that promised the most.

The meme sector just got a cold shower after a week of euphoria. Anonymous Cat, Hajimi, Basecat and MarsCoin are proof that in crypto, cats and Mars missions end the same way — at the bottom of the table. The only question is who, like Akedo, will manage to get up in the next round.
