Bitcoin holds at $77,794 while 79 of the top 100 coins bleed: the market is living Groundhog Day

Bitcoin slipped 0.13% to $77,794 while 79 of the 100 largest cryptocurrencies closed in the red — the market has re-entered Groundhog Day mode, replaying the same session without a trailer, a plot twist or an audience.

Total market capitalisation sits at $2.60 trillion on $50.0 billion of 24-hour volume. Bitcoin commands 59.91% of the market, Ether 10.69%. Those look like calm numbers. They are not. Beneath them runs a quiet selection process in which 401 of the 500 largest projects lose value while capital never actually leaves — it simply changes address.

A 1.5% range and a man holding the door

Bitcoin traded between $77,599 and $78,728 for the entire session, a range of barely 1.5%. For an asset class raised on double-digit daily moves, that is a match where both teams play inside their own half and wait for the whistle. The largest coin carries a $1.564 trillion valuation on $17.1 billion of turnover, with 20,105,365 of a maximum 21 million coins in circulation — 95.7% of the mining schedule is already history, and the remainder is arithmetic formality.

The context is what hurts. The all-time high of $126,080 was set on 6 October 2025, which leaves the current level 38.3% below that peak. The week is down 3.1%, the month 8.1%, the year 30.0%. This is not a crash; it is a long, patient consumption of a cake nobody wants to throw away. Think Apollo 13: the engine is gone, but the capsule still has a trajectory and a crew that refuses to panic.

Ether is the only one wearing white

Ether gained 0.68% to $2,283.68 on a $279 billion valuation and $8.6 billion of volume. It is the one student in the exam hall who passes — not because of the deepest knowledge, but because of staying seated until the end. The $4,946.05 all-time high remains 53.8% above the current price, with 122.18 million coins in circulation and no supply cap.

Solana fell 1.39% to $93.92, now 68.0% below its $293.31 peak. XRP drifted 0.35% lower to $1.25, 65.7% under its record. BNB lost 1.25% to $704.11. The breadth statistics are merciless: only 97 of the top 500 coins are green, and within the top 100 the count of decliners is 79. That is not a market, it is a knockout tournament where the whistle never stops.

THORChain as a submarine, Tron as a franchise veteran

The ugliest decline among larger names belongs to THORChain, which sank 15.2% to $0.526. Its all-time high stands at $20.87, meaning the token has surrendered 97.5% of its value — a submarine that has been submerged so long that everybody stopped counting the bathyscaphes. NEAR follows with a 5.76% drop to $4.12, 79.8% below its $20.44 record, while Chainlink weakened 4.14% to $11.26 and now sits 78.6% under the $52.70 mark.

On the other side, Tron added 1.87% to $0.3164 on a $30.1 billion valuation — eighth place, ahead of Hyperliquid. Tron is the Expendables cast member who reappears in every sequel because he never actually left. Zcash rose 0.55% to $1,248.59 and, with $21.2 billion of capitalisation, occupies tenth place on the leaderboard — the strangest sentence in this report: privacy is back in the top ten while narrative projects were busy shuffling their decks.

The strongest gainer among mid caps is Rain, up 7.15% to $0.006318 on a $4.49 billion valuation. The Trump token added 2.54% to $1.64, yet its $73.43 all-time high implies a 97.8% drawdown — a political memecoin hanging on the wall like a campaign poster after election night: nobody takes it down, nobody reads it either. Beam lost 5.24%, Pyth 5.29%, and among smaller names Akedo collapsed 33.4%.

$274 billion sitting on the bench

Stablecoins are the statistic of the day. The six largest — USDT, USDC, DAI, USDe, USDS and USD1 — hold $274 billion between them, equal to 10.5% of total market capitalisation. That is not fear; that is money sitting on the bench in the 89th minute, waiting for the manager to wave. Historically, this ratio has never been a permanent condition: capital on the bench either enters the pitch or leaves through the gate, but it does not live in the dressing room forever.

Bitcoin’s 59.91% dominance explains the whole picture. When the biggest player stands still while the index still falls, gravity works in his favour: capital migrates from altcoins into the most liquid instrument rather than into fiat. That is why a $2.60 trillion market cap looks stable while 79 of the top 100 names bleed.

Technically, Bitcoin is 8.1% lower than a month ago and 38.3% below the record. Historically — in 2018 and 2022 alike — that is the zone where either accumulation bases form or the decline extends toward the next psychological level. Volume of $17.1 billion on Bitcoin is neither panicked nor euphoric; it is the turnover of a market that has learned to sit on its hands.

Ninth place belongs to FIGR_HELOC, a tokenised money-market instrument, with $27.9 billion of capitalisation at $1.076 per token. It is the quietest large event of the year: a product with no community, no memes and no roadmap, standing above Hyperliquid and Dogecoin. While altcoins sell stories, tokenised Treasuries sell yield — and the market evidently knows the difference.

Monero rose 0.62% to $608.75, while Dogecoin lost 0.54% to $0.0753 on $11.8 billion of capitalisation. Hyperliquid fell 2.28% to $85.77. The odd twist: two privacy assets, Zcash and Monero, are among the few names in the green while projects that spent years selling transparency and ecosystems sit in the red. When confidence in narrative breaks, the market starts pricing properties — even invisible ones.

Across the wider tape, $50.0 billion of daily turnover means liquidity has not evaporated, it has concentrated into a handful of names. That is usually a signature of a late-stage correction rather than the beginning of panic: in genuine fear, volume explodes, spreads widen and stablecoins lose a basis point. None of that happened. USDT sits at $0.9990 and USDC at $0.9996 — the numbers of people who still believe the exit door will be open when needed.

The session closed without drama: one green Ether, one green Tron, one green Zcash and 79 red names inside the top hundred. Like Groundhog Day, the alarm rang, the day repeated, and the only difference is that several projects quietly lost another percentage point of their future. The market is not bleeding. It is grinding.
